Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems
HCAHPS is a standardized, publicly reported survey of patient’s perceptions about a caregiver and evaluation of hospital care. It is all about how good you scored as a caregiver on the patient experience scale.
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and its HCAHPS Project Team calculate the Patient Experience of Care Domain score for the FY 2013 Hospital Value-Based Purchasing program. CMS are combined Question 8 and Question 9 into one dimension of Cleanliness and Quietness of Hospital Environment while the HCAHPS global measure Recommend the Hospital is not used in the Patient Experience of Care Domain. Thus, there are eight HCAHPS dimensions in Hospital VBP. Total Performance Score is a sum of the Clinical Process Domain Score and the Patient Experience Domain Score. Patient Experience Domain Score is derived from the 8 HCAHPS Dimensions.
CMS will use a linear exchange function to distribute the available amount of value-based incentive payments to hospitals, based on hospitals’ total performance scores on the hospital VBP measures.
At Vital Checklist, we have kept in mind these Dimensions while designing our course material. It is not just a one or two or three day interaction with our experienced professionals but it is a lifelong preparation by us. Every Hospital system is focused on improving their Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) and thus, passing USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills exam in first attempt becomes essential component in their residency application process (ref: hcahpsonline.org). Our mission is to make sure all medical students pass their exam in their first attempt and have a great performance record in their residency.
